MC Oluomo Statement’
Announcement from Alhaji Musiliu Akisanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, State Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages, along with the State Executives and members:
Today, on August 1st, 2023, we convened at the LASPGM head office in Oko Oba, Agege, Lagos, to assess the prevailing situation in the country, particularly in Lagos, following the Federal Government’s removal of the oil subsidy.
After extensive discussions and reviews, we focused on the high cost of food, transport fares, and other matters of public interest, including the planned strike action by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Following careful consideration, we have reached the following decisions:
A) We and our members will not participate in any strike or protest rally planned to draw the Federal Government’s attention to the ongoing issues.
All transport families and members will continue their regular work, ensuring smooth conveyance of people to their destinations. We acknowledge that the Lagos State Government is set to announce interventions in the sector.
The Lagos State Government has provided a peaceful atmosphere for our operations, making it unnecessary for us to join any strike that could disrupt the state’s peace.
The various palliative measures taken by the Lagos State Government, such as a 50% reduction in government public transport and a review of fares for our Yellow Buses, will significantly mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal. Additionally, we have implemented internal measures, including reductions on Lagos State Government and Union Tickets, resulting in reduced transport fares by commercial drivers.
Lagos State Parks and Garages firmly stand against any form of strikes and protests by any group or organized labor. We urge all our members to carry out their regular duties without fear or hesitation.
We extend our blessings to Lagos State Parks and Garages, Lagos State Government, and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
