Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed two policemen and two staff members of the US Consulate in a tragic incident in Amiyi/Eke Ochuche communities, located in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The assailants ambushed the humanitarian mission’s convoy and shot the four victims, later setting their bodies ablaze.
During the tragic incident that occurred around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, some individuals managed to escape from the scene but sustained injuries. DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra Police Command, confirmed that joint security forces conducted a rescue and recovery operation in Ogbaru LGA.
This operation was in response to an attack on a convoy of US Consulate staff on May 15, 2023, along Atani, Osamale road.
According to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the hoodlums carried out a brutal attack where they killed two Police Mobile Force operatives and two staff members of the Consulate. They then set their bodies and vehicles on fire.
As the joint security forces responded to the scene, the assailants abducted two police operatives and the driver of the second vehicle before fleeing. Ikenga also stated that there were no U.S. citizens among the convoy’s personnel.
