Joseph Aloba, the father of Ilerioluwa Aloba, professionally known as Mohbad, has revealed how the late singer met his wife, Wunmi, at Naira Marley’s Marlian Music label.
Mohbad’s death has been a topic of discussion for over a week, given the circumstances surrounding it. The singer passed away on September 12th, 2023.
Joseph Aloba described Mohbad as a simple and modest individual and explained that the two had known each other from a young age in Oke-Iletu, Ikorodu, Lagos, before they reconnected at Naira Marley’s label. However, there were no romantic ties between them until they reunited at Marlian Music.
Wunmi is reported to have given birth to Liam, the late artist’s son.
Joseph Aloba clarified this connection through the song “Komajensun,” which Mohbad sang in 2020. He pointed to a specific lyric in the song, “Naira lo gbe omo fun mi, I’m not a womanizer,” as a reference to how Mohbad reconnected with Wunmi at Marlian Music.
Aloba disclosed, “He (Mohbad) met the lady (Wunmi) there (at Marlian Music), but they had known each other from Oke-Iletu, even though the lady was a student at that time.”
The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to the artist’s death.
Additionally, the Coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death has scheduled October 13, 2023, for witnesses to appear and provide testimony.
Attorney Funmi Falana, who served as legal counsel for Mohbad’s family, along with other lawyers, held a closed-door session to discuss the procedures for the forthcoming evidence presentation.
After the proceedings, Falana spoke to journalists and stated, “What we did today was to determine the process and timing that will aid in achieving justice. A date has been set, and we will be presenting our witnesses.”
