Nollywood actress Funke Akindele opens up about her insights gained from her past marriage to talent manager JJC Skillz.
In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Funke disclosed that she encountered hardships and had to surmount various challenges.
Using her own life as a case in point, Funke Akindele stressed that she yielded to societal pressures and rushed into a marriage to meet societal norms.
Unfortunately, the outcome did not align with her expectations, resulting in a widely publicized divorce.
Akindele disclosed that her divorce had consequences, including missed business opportunities and the emotional strain it imposed. Nevertheless, she credited her mother for being a vital source of support during this difficult phase in her life.
She concluded her advice to young women by urging them to learn from her experiences and avoid rushing into marriage.
“Take your time, if you rush in, you will rush out. You know, I just wanted to get married. I wanted to do things right, have children and all that. When I went into the marriage, it didn’t work out well. And it ended in a very bad way, with social media uproar all around. I was actually filming when somebody called me and broke the news; I felt like I wanted to die!”
“I cried and lost some good opportunities back then. But I didn’t let it shatter me. Thanks to my mother who encouraged me to put more effort into work. I redirected my energy into work, and I saved more. I didn’t allow the situation to break me down.”
