Videos circulating online depict a tragic incident in which numerous individuals were feared dead as the Lagos police resorted to firing upon peaceful protesters at Mohbad’s candlelight procession in Lekki, Lagos.
The Justice for Mohbad movement took a significant step forward on September 21st, 2023, as the candlelight procession and tribute concert commenced at 5 PM at the Lekki Phase 1 Gate and concluded at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island.
The event drew a massive turnout of Nigerians, including celebrities like Davido, Zlatan Ibile, Abu Abel, Kiekie, Do2dtun, Eniola Badmus, Falz, and other concerned citizens, who came out to support Mohbad’s cause.
However, the atmosphere later turned chaotic when the Lagos State Police once again disappointed many Nigerians by firing tear gas into the sizable crowd of peaceful demonstrators. This unfortunate turn of events led to a commotion as Nigerian youths had to flee, resulting in a stampede on the streets of Lekki.
Tragically, numerous individuals suffered severe injuries, and some lost their phones during the protest. Disturbingly, there are claims that the police also fired gunshots at the peaceful protesters.
