The Ogun State police have initiated an investigation following an incident on August 11, where a factory worker at a facility producing animal feed in Logbara village, Owode Egba, had his hand severed.
According to a statement released by SP Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, the Owode Egba Division received a situation report on the same day. A female named Ibidun Abiodun, who identified herself as the Administrative Manager of the factory, reported that Jeremiah Sulaiman, an employee responsible for handling and cleaning the industrial machine, suffered the loss of his forearm while performing his duties.
The victim was swiftly transported to Babcock University Teaching Hospital Ilishan by the Production Manager and his immediate supervisor. At the hospital, he received prompt medical attention and is now in stable condition. Preliminary investigations have commenced to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident that led to the victim’s forearm being severed.
The state Commissioner of Police has been informed, and he has directed a meeting involving the company’s executives and the victim’s family to take place in his office as part of the ongoing investigation.
“Hazards are inevitable in workplaces, but employees must prioritize personal safety, particularly in cases involving automated machines. While incidents like these have occurred before, the public can be assured that Commissioner of Police CP ALAMUTU ABIODUN MUSTAPHA psc is actively overseeing this investigation,” Odutola stated.
Check out the reactions below:
- loveliness_______: If our country were more rational, significant measures would be taken to support this man. Sadly, in Nigeria, the likely outcome is his dismissal.
- inumidun_: I can’t recall any positive news from Ogun State 😢.
- black_general147: Can someone tell me when I’ll come across a positive story from OGUN STATE?
- iammcpashun: 🦋Wow, this is heartbreaking 😭. It reminds me of that incident at Vita Malt Agbara, where a person’s dreams shattered while hustling for just 335 Naira per day after high school, all to avoid explaining his unfruitful journey. Learning to write with the left hand is now a harsh wake-up call. Traumatic.
- toluwanisings: OGUN needs our prayers… really 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️.
- aa_v_a_n_t_i: It’s quite possible that workers like him aren’t even receiving hazard allowances, and if they are, it’s likely a meager amount.
- mss_veey: To lose his dominant right hand 😢🤦♀️, there’s no compensation that can truly cover this lifelong impairment.
- 23_interior: It’s truly disheartening that the earnings from such labor are hardly worth even a minor injury 😢.
