First African album to top the US iTunes chart is Davido’s album.

David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, recently released an album called “Timeless” that broke a record for African music on the US iTunes Albums Chart.

The album debuted at the top of the charts on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, becoming the first African album to do so in the biggest music market in the world. On March 31, 2023, Davido’s fourth studio album, “Timeless,” was made available. It included collaborations with a number of Nigerian musicians, including Asake, Fave, The Cavemen, Morravey, Logos Olori, and Grammy-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo.

The 17 songs on the album also feature performances by South African DJ Musa Keys, British rapper Skepta, Jamaican dancehall/reggae vocalist Dexta Daps, and South African artist Focalistic. The album has earned widespread acclaim since its release on a number of music streaming services, including Spotify, which named it the most-streamed album in the UK, Canada, France, and Nigeria. The album also broke the previous record for the number of first-day streams on Apple Music for an African album.
