Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola found herself embroiled in a heated argument with a critic of Jaiye Kuti concerning her remarks about veteran actors seeking financial assistance.
According to a report by Naijalegit, Jaiye Kuti, also known as Jayeola Monje, addressed the intense backlash she faced for criticizing her senior colleagues who resorted to asking fans for monetary support. In recent weeks, esteemed veterans such as Iya Gbonkan, Lalude, Pariolodo, and Alapinni publicly reached out to Nigerians for aid due to their worsening financial situations. While many Nigerians generously extended help, Jaiye Kuti expressed her disapproval of their actions.
Jaiye Kuti took to her Instagram page to voice her disappointment with the veterans for resorting to online begging. She lamented the negative impact their pleas for help were having on the reputation of the Yoruba movie industry. Jaiye Kuti noted that many of them had not planned for their future and instead spent their youthful earnings on short-lived pleasures. She clarified that she wasn’t against raising funds for health issues but was against tarnishing the image of the Yoruba film industry by begging for basic needs.
Wumi Toriola agreed with Jaiye Kuti’s perspective in the comment section, expressing her concern about the veterans spoiling the industry’s image. She described Nollywood as an honorable profession from which she earns a living. However, a troll took offense to Wumi’s comment and launched into a series of insults, mocking her failed marriage and calling her derogatory names.
In response, Wumi Toriola fired back, highlighting the troll’s unproductive behavior and comparing it to the insults they hurled at her. She made a pointed remark about the troll’s mother, suggesting that their life lacked productivity. The exchange of words between Wumi Toriola and the bully can be seen in the screenshot provided.
