Oluwafemi Damilola, a Nigerian man from Ondo state, has been taken to court on charges of defrauding four runs girls of 45,000 naira. The victims shared their ordeal, explaining that Oluwafemi had engaged their services but compensated them with counterfeit electronic payment notifications.
According to reports, Oluwafemi was apprehended by the police and now faces two counts of fraud. The incidents occurred in October 2022 in the Sabo district of the state.
During the court proceedings, the police prosecutor, Akano Moremi, presented the charge, accusing Oluwafemi of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace by fraudulently engaging in sexual activities with the victims. The charge further stated that he indecently assaulted the female victims by engaging in sexual acts with them under the pretense of sending them a sum of 45,000 naira. However, instead of fulfilling his promise, he deliberately sent them a fake alert with the intention of sexually defrauding them. These actions are in violation of Sections 249 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant’s lawyer, S. A. Iluyemi, informed the court that negotiations for a settlement were already in progress between the parties. He requested the release of the defendant from custody and assured the court that his client would repay the complainants before the next adjournment date.
Chief Magistrate Charity Adeyanju granted the request and ordered that the money be paid to the complainants before the next adjournment.
