Kunle Afod, a renowned Nollywood actor, recently disclosed his firm decision to remain in Nigeria and not relocate to another country.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, the 49-year-old Yoruba film actor acknowledged that many individuals, including his colleagues in the entertainment industry, are opting to leave the country, a trend commonly referred to as “JAPA.” However, Afod clarified that he personally has no plans to follow suit.
While understanding the reasons behind people’s desire to move, Afod expressed his belief that by working together, we can rebuild the Nigeria we all aspire for.
“I don’t envision myself relocating. I have been traveling for a considerable period, and my last trip was the longest, spanning a month. I view traveling as a form of education, so if the opportunity arises, why not?
“If obtaining a visa becomes easier, people would travel and return. In such a scenario, I believe only a few would consider permanent relocation. Nonetheless, I don’t blame anyone for wanting to leave because the country is in a state of disarray. But if we collectively contribute to building this country, I believe things can improve,” Afod emphasized.
When discussing his latest movie, the actor highlighted its focus on love and religion. He described the storyline as revolving around two individuals who follow different religious paths but are destined to come together. The female lead is the daughter of a sheik, while the male lead is an evangelist. However, their union faces opposition from the lady’s father, introducing elements of conflict and tension into the narrative.
“I decided to create this movie to sensitize people to the fact that, as human beings, we are all connected, irrespective of our individual beliefs,” Afod added.
