American-born Nigerian sensation David Adeleke recently disclosed the origin of his stage moniker, ‘Davido.’
Davido, known for his top-charting songs, revealed that his billionaire father, Mr Adeleke, gave him his stage name during his recent interview with Business Untitled.
The ‘Unavailable’ hitmaker stated that despite his father’s initial resistance to his pursuit of music, his dad has always hoped for his success.
Stating that he gained fame in music when he was 17, he added that he is the first generation entertainer in his family, which seemingly made it hard for his father to accept initially.
Davido described Mr Adeleke as a supportive father, revealed how his dad literally helps him to pick his music album.
He said that his dad gave him his name ‘Davido’ after watching one of his shows on television.
According to the 32-year-old singer, his father only wanted him to complete education which he eventually did.
It can be recalled that Davido paused his music career in 2011 and decided to honor his father’s wishes by enrolling at Babcock University.
In his words, “I don’t think my dad is tough. I blew up when I was 17. Imagine a 17 year old child and you could not reach him, my dad is the sole parent”.
“Like I told you I’m the first generation entertainer. I don’t think he did not want me to do music, he just want me to be successful”.
“So when I moved back to Nigeria, he did not know. Then he heard my voice on the radio, shouting Davido and he gave me that name. My dad gave me Davido….. He just want me to go to school which I eventually did”.
