Fast-rising Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye has broken the five-year record held by her senior colleague and box office record breaker, Funke Akindele, at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Bimbo Ademoye was announced as the winner of the Best Actress in a Comedy/TV series category, surpassing Funke Akindele, Mercy Johnson, and other nominees.

The organizers of the show shared the news on Twitter, expressing their excitement in announcing Bimbo Ademoye as the deserving winner.

Bimbo Ademoye became emotional and teary-eyed when a student from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) dressed up as her character Iya Barakat for the institution’s costume day.

The talented comic actress expressed her desire to meet the young lady who touched her heart. Bimbo Ademoye also shared that the Iya Barakat brand initially started as a joke but has now become a well-known name.

Funke Akindele sets new records in Nigerian film industry

It is worth noting that Funke Akindele has once again broken records in the Nigerian film industry. She surpassed her own record for the highest-grossing film at the Nigerian box office.

A post shared by Film One revealed that Funke Akindele’s latest movie, “Battle on Buka Street,” surpassed the record previously held by her 2020 release, “Omo Ghetto: The Saga.”

“Battle on Buka Street” earned 640 million naira at the box office, surpassing “Omo Ghetto: The Saga” with 636 million naira.
