Controversial Nigerian journalist and social media personality, Kemi Olunloyo, has called for a DNA test to determine paternity in the case of the late singer Mohbad.
She revealed that Mohbad’s net worth was approximately N700 million, equivalent to around $690,000, and that Naira Marley owed him N300 million in song royalties.
Kemi Olunloyo also suggested that if paternity was established, Mohbad’s music assets should be placed in a trust fund until the child reaches the age of 18.
In her post, she stated, “MOHBAD’S MUSIC ESTATE: After my research monitoring streams and the Imolenization CAC search, I discovered that Mohbad as of today is worth N700M roughly around $690,000. Naira Marley owes him N~300M in song royalties.”
She further explained that Mohbad had complained that Naira Marley was withholding his royalties, leading to a strained business relationship between them. Kemi Olunloyo emphasized the need for artist development in Nigeria and expressed concerns about the influence of drugs and cultism in the music industry.
She suggested appointing a court-appointed probate lawyer to manage Mohbad’s music assets if Naira Marley released the funds. She also proposed a DNA test to establish paternity and safeguard the music assets for Mohbad’s son until he turns 18.
Kemi Olunloyo cautioned about the importance of understanding record deals and contract terms and cited past instances of artists facing contract disputes. She concluded by expressing condolences for Mohbad and calling for justice.
