Popular Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa, has shared that she would have chosen to remain in her marriage if she had a child with her former husband, Maje Ayida.
Toke Makinwa and Maje Ayida separated in 2015 following revelations of his infidelity and the news that he had impregnated his ex-girlfriend.
In the latest episode of her podcast, TokeMoments, the actress candidly acknowledged that if she had a child during her marriage, she might have chosen to compromise and remain in the relationship.
She shared, “A lot of women stay in unhealthy marriages for their children. For the longest time, you hear so many women say things like, ‘The marriage is done but I only stay for my kids.’”
“And I’m going to be honest here, if I had had a kid while I was married, I may have been one of those women. Because I also had the trauma of losing both parents at the age of 8. I mean, I was adopted. I have a great life which I’m thankful for, but there were times that I wondered what life could have possibly been like if that hadn’t happened.”
“So, for the sake of my children, I might have felt compelled to make compromises just to ensure they had both their mother and father. I could have been one of those women. So, I’m not here to pass judgment on anyone,” Toke Makinwa explained.
