A video is currently circulating online, depicting a compelling scenario where a grandmother vehemently refuses to release her grandchild after the child’s mother abandoned him in her care seven years ago, only to return now and demand custody.
The viral footage captures the woman recounting that her late son and his wife became parents to a baby seven years prior.
According to her account, the son’s wife abruptly disappeared one day, leaving behind her 6-month-old baby, and that marked the last time she saw her.
Speaking from Abeokuta, the grandmother explained that she has been solely responsible for raising the child over the years. Now, after taking care of him for so long, the child’s mother has reappeared and is seeking to take him away.
In a heartfelt conversation, she expressed the immense losses she has endured, having lost both her son and her husband. With the boy being the sole remaining family she has, she firmly stands against the idea of parting with him under any circumstances.
The grandmother explained that her grandson’s biological mother has since remarried and is in pursuit of having her own child. She finds herself caught in a dilemma as the mother now seeks to take custody of her grandson.
In response, the child’s biological mother clarified her situation. She explained that she had ventured overseas for opportunities and has been away for over five years. With her return and new marriage, she wishes to care for her child and is willing to repay the grandmother’s efforts.
Emotions ran high during this exchange, and the woman found herself tearfully refusing to let her grandson go with his biological mother.
Check out the reactions below:
@folukedaramolasalako: Seriously, who does this? Can someone please share this man’s handle? What if this poor woman had lost the child while taking care of him? Who would she have to turn to then? Just because she hasn’t had children from her new marriage, she thinks she can take away this woman’s source of happiness? Absolutely unacceptable 😢😡.
@amaka_paloma: The boy clearly belongs with the elderly woman. He’s in capable hands. The biological mother can provide support and, when he’s older, he can make the decision about staying with his biological mother.
@blessingonwukwe: This case is straightforward. The child should stay with the elderly woman who needs someone she’s emotionally attached to living with her. The mother can visit occasionally. After all, if the child had passed away, would she be here looking for him? Because the child was well taken care of, now she wants him.
@tkinzystar: Let the child remain with the grandmother. The mother can always come to visit, support, and maintain an active presence in his life. ❤️.
@chizoms4: After seven years of no communication whatsoever, it’s possible that the boy has been the source of strength for the grandmother who lost her son and husband. If the biological mother has a conscience, she should leave the child with the grandmother and provide for them.
@davidice7777: Biologically, the mother remains the mother, no matter how many years she abandoned the child. It’s possible that the grandmother’s claim of abandonment is not entirely accurate. The situation could be that she was sent away after her husband, her son, passed away. The woman might have stayed away because she couldn’t provide for the child, but she’s back after sorting out her situation.
@taofeeqadeosun: This woman seems to have lost her mind. She left a six-month-old baby with this poor woman without any intention of returning, and now that the child is eight, she wants to take him away. What happens to the grandmother? You can acknowledge that you have a child and visit them from time to time. If you prove trustworthy, the child might even spend holidays with you. But taking him away from his grandmother is not an option.
