In Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Aldershot Town, Slasov scored his first goal for the Shrimpers at home after coming off the bench.
And when the forward attracted attention during the team’s game preparations, Maher decided to reinstate him in the squad.
“Slavi got his chance on the bench today with how he’s trained the last few days,” Maher stated.
“He’s been excellent and I’m delighted for him.”
Spasov was not included in the roster for Boreham Wood’s midweek draw.
However, Maher thinks the summer acquisition, who moved up from Slough Town of the National League South, has finally adapted to playing football full-time.
“When he first came in he had to get up to speed in terms of fitness and sharpness with how we play and he’s certainly done that in training recently,” Maher stated.
“His movement is good.”
As a result, Maher decided to bench Spasov instead of Leon Parillon, a midfielder.
“We wanted an extra striker on the bench,” Maher clarified.
“Slavi has performed admirably during training. “He’s really been at it.”
