Pete Stanford, an Aldershot Town supporter, speaks with ECHOSPORT prior to Saturday’s game against Southend United.
In the table, Aldershot is ranked sixteenth. How do you feel about the season’s beginning?
“Well, only one victory in six away games doesn’t really give the supporters confidence, and three wins out of the first 13 isn’t terrific, especially considering our game at Roots Hall.
“But we have performed better than the outcome would indicate in a few of those games.
“Plus, everything is possible when you follow “the Aldershot way”!
“Yes, I am aware that it is only October, but I am not concerned about us fighting relegation.
“But I wish we were more consistent and that we made more of the possession we’ve had and the chances that we’re making even though we are the division’s top scorers.”
Your games have a ridiculously high number of goals on both ends. Is the team’s style of play expansive?
“Yes, generally speaking, under Tommy Widdrington, we attack rather than defend, which leads to goals on both ends.
“Unfortunately, some of the mistakes that we’ve made in recent games have mostly been pounced upon, whereas maybe before that, they weren’t.”
What do you think can be accomplished this season, and what are the expectations?
“I believe that many of us carried a positive attitude into the new season after winning the FA Trophy at Wembley in May.
“Unfortunately, we quickly forgot that fantastic day out after losing our first four games across all competitions.
“I frequently have wishes for the season, but when “the Aldershot way” is taken into consideration, those hopes are frequently dashed.
“A top half finish is possible, but having eight players sidelined is hampering us.” Who is the dangerman and who have been the greatest players this season?
“Hady Ghandour, Ryan Jones, Will Nightingale, Archy Taylor, and Dejan Tetek have been our greatest players thus far, in my opinion.
“We’ve had the goals spread around the team, so there is no one danger man.”
