Our constitution allows the Dons Trust Board (DTB) to explore new investment opportunities before a formal 50.01% member vote, provided that members are kept fully informed and updated throughout the process.
That is exactly what we are doing now, and we will continue to keep members engaged at every stage. Transparency and accountability are central to how we operate.
The Dons Trust and the Club boards remain absolutely committed to retaining majority fan ownership of AFC Wimbledon, including ownership of Plough Lane. That principle is not up for debate.
Our identity as a fan-owned club is central to who we are, and we will not compromise on it. At the same time, we must ensure that our financial model is sustainable and allows us to compete with ambition.
To achieve this, we believe the most realistic way forward is through further equity investment.
Such investment would not only provide stability but also create the conditions for long-term growth.
Financial sustainability cannot be achieved through short-term fixes. It requires consistent investment in the Club’s football infrastructure.
This means continuing to build our academy, securing and improving training facilities, strengthening our coaching and recruitment structures, and supporting wider football operations. These areas are the foundations that enable us to grow stronger on and off the pitch.
We also need to be honest about the challenges ahead. Over the next 18 months, there is very limited prospect of significantly higher operating revenues.
We cannot rely on large-scale donations to bridge the gap, and we do not believe it would be wise to increase debt beyond historic levels. Taking on greater financial risk would not be in the long-term interests of the Club or its supporters.
Given this reality, a fresh injection of equity investment is essential. By carefully targeting funds towards our strategic priorities, we can strengthen the Club’s finances, give ourselves the best possible chance of success on the pitch, and put in place a structure that supports long-term growth.
This is not simply about survival; it is about building a foundation that allows us to thrive. Equity investment will help us maintain and improve our league position, compete more effectively in League One and beyond, and remain financially sustainable as a fan-owned club.
Simply put: we need investment to grow, to compete, and to protect our future. Together, with unity and purpose, we can ensure AFC Wimbledon continues to develop as a strong, successful, and proudly fan-owned football club.
