Derby County and Charlton Athletic have had opposing fortunes this season.

The Rams made significant additions to their roster during the summer transfer window, including Ben Brereton Diaz, Lewis Travis, and Patrick Agyemang, with the goal of climbing the Championship standings.

However, John Eustace’s team has only six points from their opening seven games and is one point away from the relegation zone coming into matchday eight.

Charlton Athletic have made a strong start to their first season back in the second division since 2020, with recent back-to-back victories against Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers driving them to seventh position in the rankings, only two points below the automatic promotion slots.

We’ve taken a look at the players who may be watching from the stands at Pride Park ahead of their match at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Corey Blackett-Taylor: Out

Corey-Blackett-Taylor, Derby County

Corey Blackett-Taylor has been out with a hamstring injury since the season began, when he limped off against Stoke City.

The 28-year-old attacker is making well in his recuperation but will not be ready for the Charlton Athletic game.

Curtis Nelson – Out

Curtis Nelson, Derby County

Curtis Nelson had a cruciate ligament injury in January of this year and has been out ever since.

The 32-year-old defender might start for Eustace as the season develops, but Nelson is unlikely to return on Tuesday evening.

Liam Thompson – Out

Eustace just announced that Liam Thompson had a knee injury during training, ruling him out for the next four to five weeks of the season.

The 23-year-old central midfielder started three Championship games earlier this season, but will not play for the Rams for the next month or so.

Owen Beck: Doubt.

Owen Beck of Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp

Owen Beck joined Derby County on loan from Liverpool in the summer, but a calf injury during pre-season has restricted his contribution on the squad thus far.

Eustace recently disclosed that the defender has been training but was not risked in the team’s 1-1 draw with Wrexham last Saturday.

The County manager planned to reintroduce the Welshman at the next international break, but it is unclear whether Beck will be deployed sooner.

Rhian Brewster – Doubt.

Rhian Brewster for Sheffield United

Rhian Brewster has been away from the Derby County team for several weeks owing to a groin issue.

Eustace hasn’t ruled out the possibility of the versatile attacker returning from his injury before or after the October international break (6-14th), so it might be a game-time decision on Tuesday if he’s well enough to play for Derby.

Sondre Langås: Out

Sondre Langås, who had knee surgery in the summer, has lately resumed training and finished an hour with the under-23s.

Despite these encouraging indicators, the defender’s return to the Derby County matchday squad looks to be some way off, as the Rams do not want to risk losing their promising 24-year-old central defender for a prolonged length of time again.

Joshua Edwards – Doubt

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones

Charlton Athletic have a far smaller injury list, although they would undoubtedly like to have its injured players ready and accessible.

Josh Edwards has played significantly in the early parts of the season, starting all seven of Charlton’s Championship games.

However, the left-sided defender had to leave the play after 24 minutes against Blackburn Rovers.

The severity of his injury is unknown, but Nathan Jones may be hesitant to rush him back into play.

Matty Godden – Doubt.

Matty Godden underwent minor knee surgery this summer and has yet to return to the Charlton Athletic team.

The exact timetable for the forward’s return to the Addicks is unknown, but it will not be for the Derby County game.
