The San Francisco 49ers’ injury situation looked relatively mild on Wednesday, with only edge rusher Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) and wide receiver Jordan Watkins (ankle) missing practice. Both were back on the field Thursday, and according to reporters, every player on the 49ers’ 53-man roster participated in some capacity while media was present.

Watkins’ return is especially noteworthy. The rookie wideout, sidelined since August 11 with a high ankle sprain, hadn’t provided much in the way of updates until now. His ability to practice — and look fluid rather than tentative — is an encouraging sign. While it’s unlikely he suits up against the Seahawks this Sunday given Kyle Shanahan’s preference for players to log a full week of practice, his progress suggests he’s nearing a return.

When healthy, Watkins offers a clear boost over depth options like Skyy Moore, Russell Gage, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. His explosiveness flashed early in the preseason, and his presence would be a welcome addition to the offense. For now, though, expect Watkins, Gross-Matos, and rookie running back Jordan James to sit out this week’s matchup in Seattle.
