Popular Yoruba movie actor Taiwo Ibikunle has opened up about one of the most challenging moments of his acting career, sharing how he handled public criticism to maintain his dignity.
In a candid interview on Kunleafod TV’s official YouTube channel, Ibikunle recounted an experience with a neighbor who openly mocked him due to the car he was driving at the time. He explained that the woman called him a “poor actor,” insinuating that his financial status did not match the public perception of an actor’s success.
Reflecting on the incident, the actor admitted it was a humbling moment that tested his resilience. Rather than reacting impulsively or letting the comments derail his focus, Ibikunle used the situation as motivation to persevere in his career.
“The journey in the entertainment industry comes with its ups and downs,” he stated. “I chose not to dwell on the negativity but to channel it into improving myself and striving for greater success.”
Taiwo Ibikunle’s story highlights the struggles many actors face in balancing public expectations with personal realities, serving as an inspiration for others in the industry.
The actor described how a woman from his neighborhood approached him on the street and openly criticized not only his acting abilities but also mocked him for his choice of vehicle. This public humiliation threatened to undermine his confidence and professional reputation. However, it was his response to this situation that truly demonstrated his character.
In his statement, he said, “One of the saddest days of my life since I joined film making was when a woman in my neighborhood said bad things about my personality. While I was driving on the street, a woman embarrassed me and called me a poor actor. I wanted to attack her for mocking me, but I decided to keep calm and just let it go because people were watching us, and I later changed my location because of the woman.”
