Popular Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has announced her decision to cancel a planned charity giveaway, citing concerns over potential repercussions following the recent arrest of Olori Naomi and Hamzat Oriyomi.
During a live session on Instagram, Aiyeola expressed her sadness and apprehension after reacting to the tragic stampede that occurred at a charity funfair organized by the duo. The incident, which claimed the lives of 35 people, has led to their detention as investigations continue.
The actress noted the need for caution, emphasizing her worry over the safety and accountability measures required for such events. Fans have shown understanding and support for her decision, given the recent tragic developments.
In her emotional video, the actress expressed her apprehension about the risks associated with public charity events.
She said: “I am no longer doing giveaways. I am done. I have family members that need help. I will do my giveaway with them. If helping people will land someone in prison, I am out. People should learn from the case of Alhaji Hamzat Oriyomi and The Queen Naomi.”
She further cited concerns about superstitious rumours from those who may tie the Ibadan Stampede tragedy as an intentional ritualistic rite.
Aiyeola’s stance reflects growing concerns within the entertainment industry about the challenges and responsibilities of giving back to the community.
