Veteran Yoruba actress Adewunmi Labake, popularly known as Labake Dejo, has shared a touching story about her mother’s reaction to her debut film. Speaking in an interview with Kunle Afod on the official Kunleafod TV YouTube channel, the actress opened up about the emotional experience.
Labake revealed that her mother was deeply troubled by her first appearance on screen, accusing her of engaging in immoral behavior. “When my mom watched my first movie, she started crying and said I had become a prostitute,” Labake recounted.

She joined a movie production group to continue her journey in the industry, earning her first paycheck of just ₦1,500 for a role in a series. “Because of my passion and insistence that I was going to continue filmmaking, I joined a group where they featured me in a series movie, and I was paid one thousand five hundred naira,” she said.
