The late Nigerian Islamic singer, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, was laid to rest today, September 24, shortly after her passing. Her death was first announced by Alfa Aribidesi of At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah, based in Ilorin, who shared the news via social media.

Oyefeso’s burial followed Islamic rites, with many in the Muslim community paying their respects to the beloved singer. Known for her contributions to Islamic music, her passing has left a deep void, with mourners reflecting on her legacy and spiritual influence.

According to Punch Newspaper, the Solatul Janazzah (Prayer for the Dead) was earlier observed for the singer in Ojota, Lagos State on Tuesday.

However, the final prayer and burial took place in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State at noon and video capturing the funeral ceremony stirred emotions among social media users.

In the video, people mostly family and friends were seen surrounding the singer’s graveyard, mourning their loss.

Brother to the deceased, Jubril Gawat, who is a Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu quoted a Quran verse on his X account on Tuesday morning.

His post read, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” Q 2 V 156.
