Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, better known by his stage name Portable, recently took to social media to explain why he struck a preacher who was delivering a sermon outside his club a few weeks ago.
The incident, which stirred controversy after being captured during an Instagram Live session, showed Portable confronting the preacher. In his explanation, Portable shared his side of the story, defending his actions, which had sparked widespread criticism and debate online. The incident was previously covered by Naijalegit, highlighting the public reaction to the altercation.
Portable filmed himself confronting a pastor who had come to preach at his alcoholic bar as he was seen slapping the pastor and warning him not to disrupt his business, creating a scene outside the bar.
This has led to critics from fans and pastor at large. In response to criticism, Portable posted on his Instagram account on September 16, 2024, claiming that his sister had been attacked by a man posing as a pastor just a few weeks earlier.
Portable explained, “They want to set me up. He was not a man of God, and if he was a man of God, may God forgive me for slapping him. If I knew he was a real man of God, I won’t have slapped him. The way he acted was why I slapped him, I’m a human being and I’m not perfect,” he then apologised for his actions.
