Mercy Aigbe has disclosed the key reasons behind embracing a new religion, shedding light on the personal factors that led to this significant change in her spiritual journey.
Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has addressed speculations surrounding her shift from Christianity to Islam, putting an end to the rumors.
The award-winning actress revealed that she converted to Islam months ago, citing her love for her husband, Kazeem Adeoti, as the reason for the decision.
Mercy Aigbe and Kazeem tied the knot in 2022, and shortly after their wedding, she embraced Islam.
In a recent interview with TVC, the actress, now known as Hajiah Amminah, clarified that her decision to embrace Islam was solely hers, emphasizing that no one persuaded or influenced her.
The mother of three explained that she was already grappling with her connection to the church after the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, she decided to adopt her husband’s religion. Mercy emphasized that her husband’s love is sufficient for her and his first wife to share.
She said: “I love my husband so much. I don’t think any woman would have gone through what I went through if it wasn’t for love. I didn’t have to. I meant I’m comfortable; I have kids. So, it is because of love that I remarried.
“I’m such a lover girl. I’m very emotional. I love love. I just decided on my own to convert to Islam because I love my [Muslim] husband so much. When it comes to religion, I’m a very liberal person. I love my husband so much and he is a very religious person
“So, I just felt that after COVID-19, I was already struggling with going to church so I just decided to follow my husband’s religion.
“Converting to Islam made our bond tighter and sweeter. And it’s exciting for me because I’m learning the religion [Islam] and at the end of the day, we are serving one God.”
