Tragedy as Petrol Tanker Fire KiIIs 25, Injure$ 15 Others in Kwara

A tragic incident occurred on the Ilorin/Bode-Saadu/Jebba Expressway in Kwara State, where a petrol tanker exploded, claiming the lives of 25 people and leaving 15 others seriously injured.

The accident reportedly resulted from a head-on collision with a heavy-duty truck on Tuesday, November 28. Kwara State Director of Fire Service, John Falade, confirmed the unfortunate event.

According to The Punch, an eyewitness revealed that the tragic incident involving the petrol tanker occurred as it was moving on the wrong side of the road, resulting in a collision with a heavy-duty truck.

The petrol tanker, registered as JJN 17 XW, was reportedly traveling from Niger state, while the truck was en route from Lagos state, as per Leadership.

The collision led to a fire that swiftly engulfed both vehicles, impacting an 18-seater bus as well. The Kwara State Director of Fire Service, John Falade, confirmed the tragic accident.

On November 28, 2023, at approximately 15:18 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire at Peke village along Oko-Olowo Bode-Saadu Expressway in Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State.

Despite the diligent efforts of the firemen to quench the inferno, tragically, 25 lives were lost, and approximately 15 people were rescued with injuries.

Tragically, five individuals, including two children, lost their lives in Kwara as a petrol tanker exploded. The incident, which happened in Moro LGA, occurred about an hour after the tanker fell, leading to fatalities and injuries as people rushed to scoop petrol.

In another unfortunate event, gunmen killed a government accountant in Ogun, making headlines for the loss of life and security concerns.

Reports suggest that the incident unfolded when the tanker toppled over, releasing its flammable content along the Ilorin-Jebba Road in Moro LGA. The aftermath resulted in a devastating fire that claimed lives and caused injuries.
