Christopher Chidubem, a first-class graduate from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) with a CGPA of 4.86/5 in the Department of Mathematics, expressed his disappointment after receiving a cash prize of N20,000 from his department and faculty.
He took to Twitter to share his frustration, posting a photo of the certificate of merit he received from the university and stating, “So, just realized that I graduated as the best student in my department and the faculty with a CGPA of 4.86/5.
For this achievement, I was awarded a mere sum of #20k, which is less than $20. Yes, you read that right, twenty dollars.”
Christopher added, “They say knowledge is power, but today, I’ve discovered that it’s also valued at precisely $20. So, for all the aspiring scholars out there, let this be your inspiration: aim for the stars, and you might just afford a two-course meal at a mid-tier restaurant.”
“In all seriousness, though, it’s not about the money. It’s about the knowledge, experiences, and memories gained during this journey. So, here’s to all the financially constrained but intellectually rich graduates out there! 🥂 Let’s continue to nurture our ambitious dreams while keeping our wallets modest.”
Nigerians, sympathizing with Christopher and expressing their concerns about the state of education in the country, gathered in the comment section to share their thoughts.
