We became friends because time proved that you were a staunch admirer of my craft since I joined the industry. You were always there to support me, share my work, celebrate birthdays, and rejoice in every positive piece of news about me.
Your words during my health challenge still resonate in my ears. When you passed, I couldn’t stop crying. You used to call and say, “Omo baba mi, ko si iku loju e,” assuring me that you had people praying specifically for me. I could sense the fear in your voice as you tried to encourage me. The handsome, fashion-forward, self-confident, intentional, storyteller, actor, producer, and director of all times, Murphy Afolabi, that I knew, should never have left us so soon.
As a colleague, you were the first to call me excitedly, informing me about my nomination for an award in Canada. You made sure I submitted my entry, ensuring I was part of every trip. You always found ways to bridge our differences, sweetening any sour moments that could have distanced us. I’m forever saddened that I won’t see you in this life again, perhaps in another life.
