Veteran Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has opened up about how her appearance led to her being overlooked for significant film roles.
During a recent episode of Toke Moments, hosted by television personality Toke Makinwa, Funke Akindele discussed her experiences.
The actress explained that her facial appearance had resulted in her being sidelined, even in Yoruba films. She revealed that she had shed tears because movie makers had only assigned her small roles.
She also mentioned that whenever she faced disagreements with movie producers who rejected her based on her physical appearance, her colleague Iyabo Ojo would come to her aid.
Akindele recalled:
“I remember people telling me, ‘You are not attractive. You don’t have curves. You won’t be in this movie.’ And I remember crying. Many times, I would cry, break down, go into the bathroom, and cry.”
