Falz’s mum set to represent Mohbad’s family in court As sitting begins, fixes date for witnesses appearance

Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, a young artist, has sadly passed away. Mrs. Funmi Falana, the wife of Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), expressed her hope on Friday that justice will be served in her husband’s untimely demise.

The musician tragically lost his life on September 12 at the age of 27. His sudden death has sparked controversy, prompting the Lagos State Government to initiate a coroner’s investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his passing.

A preliminary discussion regarding the coroner’s probe took place at the courthouse on Friday. Mrs. Falana, a human rights activist and the legal representative of the family, which includes rapper Falz, spoke to journalists about the meeting. She explained that the purpose of the gathering was to address the technical aspects of the inquest, including the selection of witnesses to be presented in court.

Mrs. Falana emphasized that the coroner’s inquest would make every effort to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s untimely death. In an interview with The PUNCH, she stated, “The sitting today was just a preliminary one to discuss the modalities and procedure, as well as how to go about it. It is just a coroner’s inquest, and not a formal court hearing.”

She continued, “The expectation is that justice will be served. We would get to the root of the cause of Mohbad’s death. That is the reason we are there, and we are fully confident that we would get justice.”

However, it was reported that on October 13, 2023, witnesses would be called to appear at the inquest. Journalists were not permitted to witness the proceedings, reportedly under the orders of Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias. Mrs. Falana clarified that the identities of the witnesses would remain undisclosed until they testified in court.
