Sabinus, a popular Nigerian comedian, found himself in a comedic spat with a fellow comedian after he made a humorous comparison between Nigerian groundnut oil and UK ground oil while frying plantains in the UK.
In a video shared on his verified Instagram page on September 11th, 2023, Sabinus playfully criticized Nigerian groundnut oil for its “chaaaaain” sound when frying plantains, contrasting it with the gentler nature of UK ground oil.
He jokingly suggested that Nigeria’s groundnut oil might be more like fuel than actual cooking oil, sparking a wave of reactions online. His caption read, “This new discovery seems like we’re using fuel 😂🏃♀️🇬🇧.”
However, the video didn’t sit well with many, including fellow celebrities such as Cute Abiola, Enoluwa, Janemena, Pocolee, and others, who playfully criticized Sabinus for playfully tarnishing the reputation of Nigeria.
Cute Abiola quipped, “😂😂😂 but trust me, that ‘chaaaaain’ that Nigeria’s oil makes is what softens the plantain 😂. Taste this one that doesn’t shout ‘chaaaaaain,’ and you’ll see the plantain won’t taste as good.”
Enioluwa chimed in, saying, “Plantain that doesn’t make noise isn’t real plantain. That ‘chaaaaaaa’ noise is the flavor; it’s what makes it sweet! Tahhhh! 😂 Just be careful with the knife!”
Pocolee humorously commented, “You’re frying banana 🍌; that’s why 😂😂😂.”
Janemena pleaded, “Stop embarrassing our country online, please. Let’s keep our shame hidden 😩🥹🙏.”
laughpillscomedy added, “It’s because the oil hasn’t suffered. You know, here in Nigeria, we don’t like our food raw, unlike you in the Western world who don’t care. Here in Nigeria, the cow tail must be tenderer than a girl’s ‘bwuessss.'”
radiogad humorously chimed in, “The groundnut oil in Nigeria is angry because of the economy, election irregularities, police issues, poor healthcare and education, bad roads, terrorism, kidnappings, poor electricity, and so on. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.”
