Prominent radio host based in Ibadan, Kola Olootu, has turned to social media to post an image featuring himself and fuji artist Akorede Babatunde “Saheed Osupa.”
This follows a recent exchange of words between Kola Olootu and Saheed Osupa on social media. Alongside a throwback photograph of himself and Saheed Osupa, Kola Olootu captions it with, “This isn’t from today.”
It’s worth noting that Kola Olootu had previously asserted that he orchestrated the crowning of Saheed Osupa as the King of Fuji music in 2008, following a birthday show for late Fuji maestro Sikiru Ayinde Balogun, also known as Barrister.
According to Olootu, the late Barrister did not deliberately bestow the title upon Osupa, and he played a pivotal role in this arrangement, which has contributed to strained relationships with other prominent Fuji musicians.
“We jointly planned it at my residence in Oluyole after Saheed informed me of Baba’s (Barrister’s) upcoming birthday event. I advised him to have a crown ready before Baba’s arrival, leaving the rest to me,” Olootu explained.
When questioned about Osupa’s suitability for the title, Barrister responded in passing, inadvertently agreeing to crown him as the King of Fuji music, unaware that the crown had already been prepared.
Olootu revealed that when the crown was presented to Barrister, he was taken aback, exclaiming that he had been caught in a predicament.
Osupa’s career significantly flourished following this coronation. He released the album “Mr Music” in 2009, followed by three sequels, which gained widespread popularity. Despite his success, Olootu’s claims suggest that Osupa’s career might be tainted by the fact that his coronation was not a result of Barrister’s genuine intention, but a carefully orchestrated maneuver.
Olootu expressed his frustration, noting that despite his earnest efforts for Osupa’s success, he hasn’t received due recognition or gratitude from him. He lamented that although Osupa now generously gives gifts to people, he has seemingly forgotten Olootu, who stood by him during his early struggles.
