Actresses Toyin Abraham and Funke Akindele have effectively put an end to the long-standing unspoken rivalry that has persisted between them for years.
Previously, reports surfaced about an alleged competition between Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, particularly in the context of producing high-grossing movies that dominate the box office.
The tension became evident when both actresses decided to release their movies, “Ghost and the Tout Too” and “Omo Ghetto: The Saga,” on the same day, September 10, 2021, with the former being screened in cinemas and the latter streaming on Netflix.
At one point, Iyabo Ojo escalated the rivalry by insinuating that Funke Akindele was supporting an online movie platform that consistently gave negative reviews to Toyin Abraham’s films.
The rivalry escalated further in 2022, as both actresses boasted about the impressive performances of their movies in the Nigerian cinema box office, inadvertently causing divisions among fans and colleagues.
Funke Akindele’s announcement on December 28, 2023, that her movie “Battle on Buka Street” grossed over N200 million in just 12 days at the Nigerian box office, and Toyin Abraham’s revelation about “Ijakumo” earning N31 million in a single day and N65 million in five days on its December 23 release, only fueled the fire.
Interestingly, the two actresses have now reconciled and extended friendly greetings on Instagram, on August 24, 2023. Toyin Abraham shared a picture of Funke Akindele on her Instagram story in celebration of her 46th birthday, playfully writing, “Happy birthday aunty Funke, send cake o.”
According to an insider who spoke to Kemi Filani, Iyabo Ojo, an actress and single mother of two, played a pivotal role in mediating the reconciliation between Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.
Since resolving their differences at AMVCA 2022, the bond between Iyabo Ojo and Funke Akindele has grown stronger. Funke Akindele acknowledged the post by sharing it on her Instagram page and responding with, “Thanks darling, you too send cake.”
The close source revealed, “After Iyabo Ojo settled her own beef with Funke, it only made sense for her to also advise Toyin to do the same so that she won’t be torn between them.”
