Nigerian Lady whose mother was abandoned after father’s death Gain Mastercard scholarship to UK After Her NYSC, overcomes obstacles

Solace Ojotule, a young Nigerian lady, has triumphed over a series of daunting challenges to achieve a remarkable feat—the attainment of a Mastercard Scholarship to pursue her studies in the United Kingdom. Her incredible journey is one of perseverance, determination, and the unwavering will to overcome adversity.

Solace Ojotule shared her moving story on LinkedIn, recounting that her life took a challenging turn at the tender age of four when her father passed away. Following his death, her paternal family seized all of her father’s possessions due to the absence of a male heir. Despite facing this abandonment, she and her four sisters, all girls, and their mother persevered through a tumultuous period of struggle and hardship.

Forced to assume the roles of both father and mother, her mother’s indomitable spirit propelled them forward. Despite the odds, Solace’s mother fought to pay for their school fees during their primary education. However, even with her mother’s unwavering determination, the family faced financial hurdles that prevented Solace from continuing her education beyond primary school. The absence of funds meant that she had to resort to selling caustic soda while her peers attended school.

In a fortunate turn of events, free education was introduced for junior high school students in her state, which enabled Solace to pursue her high school education. Her dedication and hard work paid off as she successfully graduated from high school.

Undeterred by financial constraints, Solace furthered her education at Kogi State University, Nigeria, where she pursued a degree in Theater Arts. Despite the challenges, including returning from campus to engage in hawking to fund her tuition fees, she persevered and earned her Bachelor’s degree.

Following her undergraduate journey, Solace relentlessly applied for scholarships, despite facing numerous rejections. The turning point came when she was awarded the Mastercard Scholarship to study Africa and International Development at the University of Edinburgh, one of the top-ranking institutions globally.

Set to complete her Master’s degree in 2022, Solace Ojotule’s achievement is a testament to her determination, resilience, and the power of dreams. She expressed her astonishment at her journey from an “ordinary” girl to a scholarship recipient studying at a prestigious university in the UK. Her achievement stands as a symbol of breaking boundaries, proving that girls can indeed achieve their dreams.

Throughout her journey, Solace extends her gratitude to her mother for her unwavering strength and perseverance, leading her children to success despite the odds they faced.

In 2021, Solace shared her happiness in witnessing her mother’s smile after years of struggle, highlighting the significance of her accomplishment not only for herself but for her family and other women who have overcome challenges.

Solace Ojotule’s journey culminated in her graduation with a Master’s degree in Africa and International Development from the University of Edinburgh. Her success embodies the resilience of the human spirit and the potential to overcome obstacles with determination and the support of loved ones.
