“I Pray To God Not to Let My Children Suffer The Way I Did”-Nollywood actor, Afonja, unveils that he will never permit his children to address him as “Sanyeri.”

Olaniyi Afonja, popularly known as ‘Sanyeri’, is a Yoruba actor and Nollywood star. Here’s what fatherhood means to him and some insights into his experiences as a father:

Fatherhood, to Olaniyi Afonja, means being the head of the home, a supportive husband to his wife, and a responsible father to his children. It entails fulfilling the obligations and responsibilities that come with being a man, both to his spouse and his children.

He became a father at the age of 31 when he got married in 2007.

Regarding the sex of his first child, he had a male child as his firstborn.

In terms of family and social pressure to become a father, it is common for parents to desire their children to settle down and start families. Although such pressure might not always be seen in a positive light by the child, parents usually believe that having children brings blessings and the necessary means to take care of them come from a higher power. Afonja acknowledges that parents typically wish the best for their children. However, he also advises men to exercise wisdom and discretion in managing parental pressure if they feel they are not yet financially or emotionally ready to start a family, and to wait until they believe they are capable of meeting the responsibilities that come with fatherhood.
