“I appreciate the need for Nigerians to support our industries, but let’s normalize giving honest movie reviews so people don’t waste their time. Ijakumo is an overrated movie. I watched it and don’t understand the hype. Aside from the poor storyline, the film tricks are awful. No offense.”
Recently, Toyin Abraham was invited to the Trendupp Awards alongside Daniel Regha, and she expressed her desire to meet him in order to receive feedback on how she can improve her filmmaking skills.
“My darling @DanielRegha, I hope to see you face to face at the Trendupp Awards today so that you can kindly tell me where I need to improve in filmmaking. I saw your tweet about IJAKUMO, and I would be happy to hear from you about areas I can work on. I also hope to see other lovely influencers at the event.”
However, Toyin Abraham’s tweet didn’t sit well with many who had shared their honest opinions about the movie not living up to the hype.
One Twitter user, Soyofound, wrote, “Is it by force? Ahn ahn, it’s not only Daniel that said the movie wasn’t good. Madam, take your loss gracefully. I loved Elevator Baby and every other movie you have produced and directed, but Ijakumo, or whatever its name is, didn’t make sense at all. Nigerians, let’s speak the truth in this comment section for once. Who said the movie was amazing? Did it make sense to you?”
The discussion around the movie Ijakumo highlights the importance of open and honest movie reviews, allowing audiences to make informed choices and encouraging filmmakers to continuously improve their craft.
