Yvonne Nelson, a renowned Ghanaian actress, has recently made allegations against her Nigerian colleague, Tonto Dikeh, accusing her of being the reason behind her breakup with the famous singer, Iyanya.
These accusations surfaced after Yvonne, a 37-year-old mother, released her recently published book titled “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” which has caused a stir within the industry.
In the past, Yvonne had made claims about being impregnated by Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie in 2010, but he denied any responsibility, leading her to make the difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy.
In regards to her relationship with Nigerian singer Iyanya, their separation was attributed to his infidelity with actress Tonto Dikeh.
Yvonne nostalgically described their time together as a fairytale romance, filled with gestures like breakfast in bed. She believed their love was eternal when Iyanya got a tattoo of her initials, YN, on his wrist.
Chapter 10 of her book was dedicated to Iyanya, and an excerpt read:
“We had a decent relationship, with breakfast in bed and all the niceties of a dream relationship. I was certain he was someone I could be with forever. He even tattooed my initials, YN, on his wrist, which meant a lot to me. In his hit song ‘Ur Waist,’ he expressed his desire for me.”
Yvonne Nelson went on to reveal that their relationship took a drastic turn when she received a call informing her that another actress would visit Iyanya’s house and sometimes even spend the night after she left.
To her shock, the actress in question turned out to be Tonto Dikeh, who was also mentioned in Iyanya’s song “Ur Waist.”
“One can only imagine my disbelief when I returned to Ghana after one of my visits to Nigeria and received a call from someone at his house. The caller said that whenever I left Iyanya’s place, another actress would come over, sometimes spending the night. This person strongly believed that something was going on between them and felt I should know. That actress turned out to be Tonto Dikeh from Nigeria, one of the female celebrities Iyanya named in his song ‘Ur Waist.'”
“When I was convinced of the authenticity of the information, I was heartbroken. I took to Twitter to express my frustration. Tonto Dikeh responded on Twitter, saying that people change, including their feelings, and that I should move on.”
Yvonne’s memoir also revealed additional incidents involving Iyanya and some of his female crew members, which further solidified her belief that his involvement with Tonto Dikeh was not an isolated occurrence.
“I later heard more stories about what Iyanya did with some of his female crew members. It convinced me that what happened between him and Tonto Dikeh wasn’t an isolated incident. It was a pattern, a way of life for him. Even if Tonto Dikeh hadn’t come into the picture, I knew I would have eventually left. There was no point in fighting her for a man I had already lost, especially when I knew her fate wouldn’t be any different from mine.”
However, it is one thing to know there is a valid reason to leave and another to accept the decision emotionally and psychologically. Convincing the mind is often easier than consoling the heart. During my breakup with Iyanya, I experienced immense emotional turmoil. I cried inconsolably for two months, much to the irritation of a friend who couldn’t understand why I was grieving over a man who had betrayed my love.
My attempts to move on were hindered by the media in Nigeria and Ghana, who took an intense interest in our breakup…
The highly publicized relationship between the “Kukere” master, Iyanya, and Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson came to an end in 2015. The couple had started dating in July 2012 and had been seen together at various events during their time together.
