In recent developments, the Department of State Security (DSS) has invited Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The invitation was disclosed in a statement by Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the DSS, on Wednesday night.
According to Afunanya, Bawa arrived at the DSS headquarters a few hours ago. Earlier in the day, President Bola Tinubu suspended Bawa from his position. Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), confirmed the suspension in a statement.
The suspension was implemented to allow for a proper investigation into allegations of abuse of office leveled against Bawa. The statement further directed Bawa to hand over the affairs of his office to Abdulkarim Chukkol, the Director of Operations at the EFCC, who will oversee the responsibilities of the chairman until the conclusion of the investigation.
These developments highlight the ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and transparency within the EFCC and address the allegations against its suspended chairman. Further updates on the investigation are awaited as the process unfolds.
