The Guinness World Records has stated that they did not receive an application for the recently concluded cookathon in Oye-Ekiti. Chef Dammy, a courageous lady, embarked on a cooking marathon in Oye-Ekiti on Friday, June 9, with the organizers claiming she would cook for 120 hours.
Nigerians began questioning whether Chef Dammy followed the proper procedure or if she genuinely intended to break a world record. Social media buzzed with reactions to her efforts.
To clarify the situation, Legit.ng reached out to the Guinness World Records on Tuesday, June 13, with a press inquiry. In response, the organization revealed that Dammy may not have initially set out to break any record. Instead, she might have been cooking out of passion or to showcase her skills, as many have acknowledged.
Legit.ng sought clarification from the Guinness World Records to address the curiosity of the public regarding Dammy’s efforts. In their response, the organization stated, “We have not received an application for this attempt. Applications can be made via the Guinness World Records website for our records management team to review.”
Concerns were also raised by some Nigerians regarding whether Dammy followed the cooking rules. In this regard, the Guinness World Records explained that once an application is accepted, individuals attempting to break a record receive specific rules from the organization.
According to the response from the Guinness World Records, once an application is accepted, the record claimant receives detailed guidelines specific to the record category they are attempting to break. These guidelines outline the requirements and evidence that must be submitted for the Guinness World Records team to verify the record. The organization maintains a rigorous review process to ensure the integrity of each Guinness World Records title.
Contrary to claims that Dammy had to wait for one year before attempting to break an existing record, the Guinness World Records clarified that there is no waiting time required. Individuals can attempt to break an existing record without any specific waiting period.
On June 7, shortly before the cookathon began, the organizers, The Spirit Word Mission, tweeted on their official account, stating their intention to go for the world record by Friday, 09/05/2023. Additionally, a video posted on Twitter by the Spirit Word Mission showed Dammy expressing her excitement about the Guinness World Records.
It’s important to note that without an official application and adherence to the specific guidelines provided by the Guinness World Records, a record attempt may not be recognized or verified by the organization.
