Nollywood actress Adunni Ade found herself engulfed in a whirlwind of emotions when she discovered that she had been ranked alongside industry icons Mo Abudu, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, Biodun Stephen, and other remarkable women in Nigerian Box Office’s prestigious list of top box office performers in filmmaking from 2020.

Overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation for this incredible honor, Adunni couldn’t contain her emotions and turned to her Instagram page to pour out her heartfelt sentiments.

Adunni Ade bared her heart as she reflected on her journey in the Nigerian film industry. She disclosed how she idolized Funke Akindele, particularly her iconic character, Jenifa, when she embarked on her Nollywood career a decade ago.

In a touching tribute, Adunni recounted the moment she met Funke Akindele in New York and described her as the epitome of sweetness. Taking to her Instagram page, she penned the following words:

“The fact that I am being celebrated alongside these incredible women in the film industry is truly beyond words. Throughout my journey as an actor and a budding filmmaker, I have encountered several women who have deeply impacted me.

When I made the decision to step into Nollywood ten years ago, I looked up to sister @funkejenifaakindele. Her portrayal of the character ‘Jenifa’ resonated with me so much that it became my default behavior whenever I came across any Nigerians in Kentucky. I had the pleasure of meeting her in New York, and she turned out to be the sweetest soul! Her charisma was infectious, and I always dreamt of working with her, which eventually happened in Season 2 of Jenifa.

You have been incredibly supportive, and I am forever grateful. Little did @jadeosiberu know that her film ‘Sugar Rush’ would inspire me to take the leap into creating my own project. I was moved to tears the day I watched it, and it immediately sparked my planning to make a film. I even reached out to her to direct my project ‘SOOLE.’ Although we haven’t collaborated yet, it’s something I eagerly look forward to!

To my sister @biodunstephen, I met you when I first arrived in this country. I always longed for the day we would work together, and after a decade, that dream has finally come true. I can’t wait for the world to witness the magic you have created.

Aunty @moabudu, thank you for having me on ‘Sons of the Caliphate.’ Your unwavering dedication to filmmaking is truly admirable.

@filmoneng, thank you for this recognition. The show must go on, and we will keep pushing forward! Stay tuned for two exciting new projects coming your way soon.”

Adunni Ade’s heartfelt message beautifully encapsulates her gratitude and admiration for the remarkable women who have inspired and influenced her career in Nollywood.
