Yeni Kuti, a Nigerian dancer, singer, and media personality, recently shared her perspective on infidelity and why she wouldn’t leave her marriage due to cheating. In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Yeni Kuti explained that her decision is influenced by the example set by her late father, Fela Kuti, who had 27 wives, and her mother’s choice to remain in the marriage despite the multiple unions.
Yeni Kuti emphasized that she doesn’t impose her beliefs on others and understands that different individuals have their own choices. She expressed her personal stance by stating that she wouldn’t leave her husband if he were unfaithful. Yeni Kuti reasoned that it wouldn’t be fair for her to break up her marriage because of one person when her mother endured a similar situation with her father.
It’s worth noting that Yeni Kuti has previously expressed similar views on infidelity. In a previous discussion on TVC’s ‘Your View,’ she aligned herself with veteran actress Patience Ozokwor’s perspective that cheating isn’t necessarily a deal breaker in a marriage. Yeni Kuti specifically mentioned that she could forgive her partner for cheating with a woman but would consider it a deal breaker if he were involved with another man.
Drawing from her father’s example of having multiple wives, Yeni Kuti reiterated that her mother stayed despite the circumstances. However, she clarified that her personal threshold is crossed when her partner engages in a relationship with another man, at which point she would choose to leave without any room for reconciliation.
