Afeez Owo Reveals How Misguided Advice from Friends Almost Destroyed His Marriage to Actress Mide Martins
In a candid revelation, Afeez Owo, a prominent Yoruba actor and filmmaker, opened up about the challenges that nearly led to the collapse of his marriage a few years ago. It was in 2016 when his wife, actress Mide Martins, publicly accused him of abandonment, stirring controversy on social media.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Owo chose not to shy away from discussing the catastrophe that had befallen his marriage. He attributed the turmoil to misguided advice given to his wife by friends who had ill intentions to disrupt their marital harmony.
“Every home experiences its fair share of issues,” shared the filmmaker. “However, it’s crucial how you address them.” Owo revealed that their marriage was on the brink of destruction due to the influence of friends who had given his wife poor advice. He further disclosed that his wife deeply regrets her actions and words during that time. While disagreements between couples are inevitable, Owo emphasized the importance of keeping such matters private, rather than involving neighbors or acquaintances. He acknowledged that mistakes were made, but they have learned from them and have chosen not to dwell on the past.
Addressing rumors that the alleged conflict was a publicity stunt for a film, Owo dismissed such claims, asserting that people often tend to spread unfounded gossip.
Despite being a Muslim, Owo firmly stated that he had no intention of marrying more than one wife. He explained that his peaceful nature, inherited from his father, steered him away from such complications. Although permitted by the Quran, he expressed his desire to avoid additional troubles. “It will bring more problems for me, and I don’t want it,” he affirmed.
Reflecting on how he and Mide Martins met, Owo attributed their union to a divine connection. “God just said she would be my wife,” he shared. Recounting a past incident of infidelity by an ex-girlfriend, Owo revealed that Martins had been one of the individuals who pleaded for forgiveness on her behalf. However, he had already made up his mind and eventually started dating Martins after some time. Celebrating 17 years of marriage, Owo expressed deep affection for his wife, describing their relationship as one where she sees him as a father figure, and he sees her as a mother figure. Their bond extends beyond husband and wife, representing a profound love and admiration for each other.
