Lagos Night of Respect: Tears Flow as Nollywood Stars and Murphy Afolabi’s Students Pay Tribute
A heartfelt evening of tribute was organized in Lagos State to honor the late Murphy Afolabi, a prominent figure in Nollywood and a cherished mentor to numerous aspiring actors.
Online videos circulating on social media captured the emotional scenes of grief as fellow celebrities mourned the loss of their beloved colleague, who passed away last week. Among those seen in the footage were Kelvin Ikeduba, Olaiya Igwe, Yemi Solade, Richardo Agbor, Toyosi Adesanya, Adekola Tijani, and a group of Murphy Afolabi’s students gathered at the Blue Roof Agindigbi in Lagos State.
The event provided an opportunity for actors Adekola Tijani, Yemi Solade, and Richardo Agbo to take the stage and share insights into the life of the late Murphy Afolabi, shedding light on his remarkable achievements and profound impact within the industry.
The Nollywood community declared the day of Murphy Afolabi’s passing as a “Black Sunday,” as the industry mourned the loss of two actors. Many individuals expressed their condolences by posting somber images on their social media timelines to pay tribute to the late Murphy Afolabi.
The sudden demise of actor Murphy Afolabi came as a shock to many, as he had recently celebrated his 49th birthday on May 5th. Reports by Seun Oloketuyi stated that the actor lost his life due to an unfortunate accident, slipping on bathroom tiles and hitting his head on a hard surface.
Nollywood artists, including Adeniyi Johnson, Papa Show, Biola Bayo, Damola Olatunjji, Sam Olatunji, Yinka Solomon, Mercy Aigbe, Kemi Korede, and numerous others, expressed their grief and sorrow over their colleague’s untimely passing on social media.
Amidst tears, Murphy Afolabi was laid to rest by his children, colleagues, family, and friends at his residence in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The profound loss felt by the Nollywood community and the lasting impact of Murphy Afolabi’s contributions to the industry will forever be remembered.
