Altercation at Lagos Burial Ceremony: Remi Surutu Reveals Details of Clash with Faithia Balogun

A few weeks back, renowned actresses Remi Surutu and Faithia Balogun found themselves entangled in a heated brawl during a burial ceremony organized by London-based celebrity Bamidele Omosehin in Lagos.

Recalling the incident, it all started with a disagreement between the two popular actresses—veteran actress Remi Oshodi, popularly known as Remi Surutu, who was seated on one side of the hall, and Faithia Balogun. The situation quickly escalated into a chaotic scene, until concerned guests intervened and managed to separate them, diffusing the tension in the air.

Rumors began to circulate, suggesting that Remi Surutu had been harboring grudges against Faithia Balogun due to her perceived “disrespectful” behavior. Speculations added fuel to the fire, claiming that Faithia Balogun had a romantic involvement with the London-based celebrant, whom Remi regarded as her younger brother. Some even speculated that actress Iyabo Ojo might have fueled Remi Surutu’s resentment by disclosing alleged escapades involving Faithia Balogun, as the two were also believed to be at odds.

Recently, Remi Surutu spoke to City People, shedding some light on the incident and briefly explaining the reasons behind her decision to slap Faithia Balogun. She emphasized that she harbors no regrets about her actions. Additionally, she revealed a distressing chapter from the past, explaining how she once provided shelter for Faithia and her ex-husband, Saidi Balogun, but eventually had to ask them to leave due to their incessant fighting.

“My clash with Faithia Williams started when I began hearing rumors about her spreading all sorts of derogatory remarks about me. I discovered she had been tarnishing my reputation in the presence of our colleagues and movie producers. She has been crossing the line, and someone needed to put her in her place.

“This is the same person I treated like a sister. We were extremely close when she joined the industry. I can confidently say that I played a significant role in her relationship with Saidi Balogun at that time. They both resided with me in Magodo. However, their constant fights, which almost harmed my mother, forced me to evict them.

“I cannot fathom why she suddenly developed such animosity towards me and began defaming me. Even now, I cannot pinpoint what I have done to deserve such treatment from her. There are numerous other incidents she has been involved in that I cannot disclose at this moment.”

“Faithia is consumed by her own ego, perhaps because she was misled into believing she is the queen of all actresses, ‘Pelu awon tani.’ I chose to confront her and reprimand her during that event because someone needed to hold her accountable. Fortunately, divine intervention and the intervention of our colleagues prevented a dire outcome. I warned her, saying, ‘If you come any closer, I will smash a bottle on your head.’

“When people attempted to mediate and resolve the conflict amicably, I made it clear that I had no intention of settling anything with her, and I do not feel any remorse for my actions. I have no regrets whatsoever; she is truly crossing the line and needs to be put in her place.”
