In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, Nigerian actress Mellisa Osagie expressed her opinions on marriage and said she did not think marriage should be an institution.
Osagie admitted that she once came close to getting married but decided against it. Instead, she values friendship and thinks that if two people get along, they may be committed to one another without a ring.
She also addressed the topic of older women being encouraged to have children outside of marriage, saying that having children is crucial, whether or not through marriage, especially for old age, even if it had to be done through surrogacy.
The longest relationship Osagie had was for four years, but she said there was nothing to be learned from it and she eventually moved past it. Osagie also discussed some of the sacrifices she has made in relationships. Giving her time, which she thinks can be invested without yielding any rewards, has been the main sacrifice she has made in relationships.
