Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has responded to critics who claim her new name, “Minnah,” is not a Muslim name. The actor recently disclosed that after converting to Islam, she changed her name to Hajia Meenah Mercy Adeoti.
In a recent Instagram post, Aigbe addressed the criticism around her new name and stated that it is usual for people to have names that are not necessarily associated with their religion.
She penned: “
I read a lot of comments from Muslims who claimed that it was Aminat; however, mennah is not a Muslim name, thus neither Aminat nor meenah are correct. The right spelling is MINNAH.
It’s a strong, sweet, and unusual name, and while I understand that many people aren’t familiar with it, when my husband suggested it, I fell in love with it.
I’ll recommend MINNAH if you’re a Muslim looking for a special baby girl’s name for your princess, and be sure to invite me to the naming ceremony.
